Can one truck change hundred's of lives? On September 27, 2008, from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m., the third annual Race to Erase will be held. This unique community event has teams of four adults drive throughout Lambton County to complete fun-filled challenges. Past challenges include working together to catch a fish at the Bluewater Hatchery, sinking a putt while wearing sight simulator glasses for the CNIB, and participating in a banana-split-eating contest. The goals of the race are to raise awareness and funds for a local not-for-profit organization. This year’s event supports Goodwill Industries – Essex Kent Lambton. The funds raised will go to the purchase of a new truck. Goodwill’s focus is on helping people. Its employment and training programs help those with developmental disadvantages gain confidence, skills and independence. These programs are funded through sales at Goodwill retail stores. Goodwill’s sales are restricted by how quickly it is able to transport donated products to its retail locations. A new truck will allow Goodwill to collect and transport donations more efficiently, ultimately leading to more sales. The funds from these higher sales can then be used to provide more people in Lambton County with the employment and training programs they need to succeed. Rally together for your community!
